Vanguard Construction successfully tendered and were appointed to commence the re-development of part of the USAF airbase at Greenham Common. The project commenced with the clearing of foliage & weeds that had taken over the 19.25 Acre Site since it was vacated by the USAF in 1992. Various small Structures pertinent to the former use were demolished & removed to ensure the Site was clear for the planned construction to start. New Electrical, Telecoms & water supplies were brought onto Site & trenched to new sub-station & water meter position through the existing 800mm thick MOD Grade Concrete.

The Existing Drainage was fully investigated & adapted/extended to accommodate the proposed layout of the new Buildings & the bespoke requirements of the Client to satisfy strict Environmental standards. After core testing it was discovered that It was possible to erect some of the new buildings directly onto the existing slabs of the former Aircraft Hangers.
Where the camber of the existing Runway was more extreme it was necessary to form concrete ring beams & rafted slabs to create a level base for new steelwork.

A vehicle wash bay was designed & constructed – using the natural camber to take the water to external perimeter ACO drains which were then connected via a silt trap to the existing underground drainage system. The `de- pollution’ Area containing vehicles deemed contaminated was securely bunded & designed for all groundwater to pass through a by-pass interceptor before going off Site to an attenuation tank.

A condition of Planning was that 400m of the Site be bounded by a 3m high Acoustic Fencing including a reptile barrier where adjacent to the existing common land. To the remaining 1350m of galvanised palisade fencing was installed together with 3 Automated vehicle Access gates.

To the entire perimeter new 8m column LED car park lighting was erected together with CCTV security masts & Beam detection where required. For the incoming new Copart Staff we commissioned the fabrication of a 4,000 ft² Modular Office off-site–delivered & installed on Blockwork piers of varying height to suit the topography. This was then connected to the newly installed supplies & the Galvanised steel staircases installed with a DDA compliant Lift to give the required Access & egress. Air Conditioning, Carpeting & a customer service counter were the final items required to hand over this part of the facility to the Client for them to commence operational activities. Vulnerable areas were protected with Armco barriers where appropriate. Transporter Loading/Unloading areas were designated & line marked in conjunction with Key Klamp Pedestrian walkways. A Staff parking was created together with Smoking & Cycle shelter.
